Individual Psychotherapy

What Is Psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy is a treatment that helps people identify and change negative thought patterns, emotions and behaviours. It can help people improve their self-awareness and take charge of their lives. Through talk therapy, a psychotherapist helps an individual understand how their thoughts affect their actions and learn healthier thinking patterns and habits.

Relationships
While relationships can provide tremendous fulfillment in our lives, they can also be difficult and therapy can help you understand the patterns of facilitating conflict or connection in your relationships. With the support of your therapist, you can develop boundaries and effective communication to enhance your most meaningful connections.
Grief, Loss and Bereavement

The process of grieving often involves sadness, anger, loneliness, and other painful emotions. However, grieving can help you come to terms with loss and move forward in life, while still cherishing memories of your loved one. Although others may have opinions about how to grieve correctly, your grief is yours and yours alone. Some people need to express their grief, while others prefer to process in silence. Some feel anger, while others feel sadness, numbness, or relief. Everyone has different reactions to loss, and different needs during the grieving process.

Stress Management

Stress is an inevitable part of life, impacting individuals across various domains such as work, relationships, and health. Unmanaged stress can take a toll on mental health, leading to a range of issues like anxiety, depression, and physical health challenges. Recognizing the importance of stress management is essential for maintaining overall well-being and resilience in the face of life’s challenges.

Anxiety and Depression

Anxiety: Everyone feels anxiety from time to time. Few people get through a week without some anxious tension or a feeling that something is not going to go well. We may feel anxiety when we’re facing an important event, such as an exam or job interview, or when we perceive some threat or danger, such as waking to strange sounds in the night. However, such everyday anxiety is generally occasional, mild and brief, while the anxiety felt by the person with an anxiety disorder occurs frequently, is more intense, and lasts longer—up to hours, or even days. Unfortunately, anxiety disorders are common. Research shows that up to one in four adults has an anxiety disorder sometime in their life, and that one person in 10 is likely to have had an anxiety disorder in the past year. Anxiety disorders are the most common mental health problem in women, and are second only to substance use disorders in men. Anxiety disorders can make it hard for people to work or study, to manage daily tasks and to relate well with others, and often result in financial strain and profound personal suffering. People often live with anxiety disorders for years before they are diagnosed and treated.

Depression: Everyone feels ‘down’ from time to time, but depression is more than that. When you are depressed your low mood can last for weeks at a time. While mild depression might not stop you from living your life, severe depression can make you feel suicidal and unable to function normally. It is thought that between 3 and 7 people out of every 100 will experience depression every year. The good news is that there are many effective psychological and medical treatments for depression. Additionally, understanding the underlying causes of depression can empower individuals to take proactive steps towards recovery, fostering resilience and hope for a brighter future.
